Who’s Who at Camp – April, 2018

Hi Folks,

Now that April has arrived, and our enrollment is filling up, we have fewer new enrollees to tell you about, but it’s still exciting.  We want you to know that we still have room in a few age groups 1st Session, and in most age groups 2nd Session.  So if you have friends or relatives who are afraid they may have missed the boat for the upcoming summer, please let them know they can reach out to us.  We’ll make every effort to accommodate referrals we get from our camp family.  Thank you!

Welcome back to the following “old-timers” who re-enrolled in the last month:

JASON RABINOWITZ of Frisco, TX; and KOBE CERRA of Kildeer, IL.

Welcome aboard to the following first-year campers who have joined us in the last month:

BECKET, MAX, & MILES HERR of San Diego, CA; WILLIAM ADELMAN of Glencoe, IL; PIERSON LIPSCHULTZ of River Forest, ILJAKE OBERMAN of St. Louis, MO; and JACKSON FORD of Chicago, IL.  Get ready for an amazing summer, y’all!

This time of year we are narrowing down to our last few spots on our staff.  We are still busy doing several interviews each week and making sure we’re hiring the folks we know will contribute to a fantastic summer!  We’re excited to introduce you to a few more returning “old-timers” as well as some new staff members who will join us this year:

Erica is back for her 3rd summer at camp. She is 28 years old and is from Milford, OH.  She graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Early Childhood Educatoin.  Erica is a certified WFR and LGT, and she will again be part of our amazing Trip Leading staff.  This winter she has spent a lot of time out traveling and exploring the west.

Summer number 4 coming up for Ryan, who is also from Milford, OH.  He is 26 years old, and has spent a good chunk of this “off-season” traveling around the western US.  For the last few months he’s been back in Ohio working at a warehouse, waiting for summer!  Ryan is also WFR and LGT certified, and he will again be a Trip Leader.  Something we didn’t know about Ryan: “In 2017 I spent over 3 months sleeping in a tent! I traveled to over 20 states, and visited 18 National Parks!”

Welcome aboard to the following first-year members of our staff:

All the way from Auckland, New Zealand, Sonya joins our staff.  She is 22 years old and works as a pharmaceutical technician.  Sonya has a degree in Pharmacology from the University of Auckland.  She is also currently working as a nanny with an 8 year old girl.  Sonya has become an avid rock climber and has taught climbing at a local gym.  This summer she will be our Rock Climbing Director.

Tanner is from Kaukauna, WI and is getting ready to graduate from Bellin College with a degree in Nursing.  He will complete his board exams and will be a Registered Nurse.  Tanner is 23 years old, and through his clinical rotations, and being an older brother to two younger brothers, Tanner has spent time working with kids.  He also completed a mission trip to Guatemala earlier this year, and worked in a hospital treating children for several of those days.  We’re happy to welcome Tanner to our staff as one of our Camp Nurses.

Ivy is 23 years old and is from the metropolitan Turtle Lake, WI area.  She is a senior at UW-LaCrosse majoring in Art Education.  Ivy has been teaching art in a classroom for the past 3 semesters, and she also taught kids in a summer art program.  He plan is to become an art teacher.  This summer Ivy will head up our Arts & Crafts program and help out with Pottery.  Something we didn’t know about Ivy: “I am a huge musical theatre fan! While I usually listen to pop songs or the oldies, half of my playlists are of musicals!”

Carolina is from Puebla, Mexico and found out about us from her friend, Jonathan Vera.  She is a senior at Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla, studying Environmental Science and Sustainable Development.  She has worked with kids with Down Syndrome teaching them art, has volunteered with children through several organizations.  She currently works at a construction company managing the office and handling sales and appointments.  This summer Carolina will be part of our Office Staff and will handle our daily run into town.

Gus will be 23 years old this summer, and he is coming to camp from Harden, Australia!  He currently works in his family business as a plant and diesel mechanic.  His family is passionate about waterskiing, and Gus has been skiing and driving boats since he could walk.  He is big into wake boarding and barefooting.  And we know this first-hand because 10 years ago, Gus’ brother Jack came to camp and was one of our Ski Directors.  This summer, Gus will follow in those footsteps.  He’ll be a cabin counselor and co-director of our Waterski program!

In our next post, we’ll share some updates about the lives of some of our campers and staff members.  Stay tuned for that.
